for a relief society enrichment project we made recipe boxes. I am not really a joiner, so I haven't been to an activity in months. but I thought I would attend this one. when I got there I was a little disappointed because the boxes they had provided for us to cover weren't the same ones they had shown us in class. they were awkward for a recipe box, and they didn't have the right paper or supplies like I did at home. (yes, I'm a craft snob). so I took the blank box home and took off all the hardware, sanded, painted, covered it with paper, and mod podge'd it all to seal it. then I put the hardware back on, but on different sides so it opened the other direction (long ways...hot dog style). I'm actually pretty proud of it. I still have to cut out the word "recipes" from vinyl to attach to the top, and make divider cards. but then I got the idea that it would be cute to cover them with baby like paper, and give them as little memory boxes for baby shower gifts. the ladies in rs had a couple extra, so they gave them to me. the second picture is my first baby box...which turned out better than I thought it would, seeing as I "finished" it at 3 am. it's a fun project - just make sure that you measure the actual box you are covering, because no two are created equal.

to make this card use a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 in card base. cut a 5 1/4 x 4 in piece of patterned paper. glue to the card base. cut three candles out of chipboard. cover with patterned paper (I used two different colors, one for the wax and one for the light). tie a piece of ribbon around one candle. cut out another candle of vellum. glue all four candles to the card base. use rub ons to write the word wish on the vellum candle. cut a small square out of colored paper. draw a cupcake with a candle on it. glue to the card base. use staples as shown.

to make this card, start with a 6x6 in card base. cut a 5 3/4 x 5 3/4 in piece of patterned paper. cut a 1x6 in piece of bazzill. put six teeny tiny eyelets on both sides. (I don't know the size of the eyelets...but they're the really, really, really small ones). glue to the patterned paper. cut a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 in piece of bazzill. stamp a thanks message in the corner. glue to the patterned paper. insert two large brads in the corners of the bazzill. glue the whole thing to the card base. chose or make a funky shape of thick chipboard. cover with patterned paper. glue to the card base.

to make this card start with a 6x6 in card base. round the corners. cut a 5 3/4 x 5 3/4 in of patterned paper. round the corners. cut a 1 x 5 3/4 in piece of bazzill. cut a 4 x 3/4 in piece of bazzill. round the bottom two corners. glue this piece to the patterned paper. then glue the small rectangle to to the patterned paper, along the edge of the bazzill. use a piece of ribbon along the bottom edge of the small rectangle. cut a 2 in circle. punch out a large star. glue them to the larger piece of bazzill. flock the word thanks to the larger piece of bazzill. glue the patterned paper to the card base.

to make this card, start with a 6x6 in card base. cut a 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 in piece of patterned paper. cut a 3x3 in piece of bazzil paper. cut a 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 piece of colored paper. cut out a funky shape on light colored paper. glue the funky piece of paper to a piece of bazzil paper, and cut out the funky shape again, leaving a border. flock the words "thank you" to the funky piece of paper. use brads for the middle of the flowers. to make the funky paper stick up use a spacer. glue all the pieces together.

as I mentioned in my personal blog, these are the baby shower invitations I made for my sister-in-law's baby shower. this first picture makes it seem like there aren't that many, but they seemed to keep coming while we were finishing them. if you decide to make this card, let me know and I will help walk you through it if you need help. it's a very intense card, and I ended up recruiting my mom and brother to help me because it was so much work. thanks again!

final card size is 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 in.

to make the outside/envelope - cut a 8 1/2 x 11 in. piece of brown bazzil cardstock in half, so that the halves are 4 1/4 x 11 in. then fold each piece in half, so that there are 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 in. sections. note - the bazzil (textured) side goes on the outside of the card. cut from the top of the folded line to the bottom corner of one of the halves on each piece (do this so that the sides form a mirror image). place the two uncut sides on top of each other and glue together. next cut out two triangles out of to different pink patterned paper that will be glued to the top of each of the triangle sections - each pink triangle will have the dimensions of 4 x 5 1/4 in sides, and a 6 1/2 in. hypotenuse. again, the triangles should be mirror images of each other. I was able to find a double sided patterned paper that I just cut a 4 x 5 in square and then cut that into two triangles. glue pink triangles to the brown triangles, making sure they are flush on the bottom outside corners. then fold the two sides together and glue together, making a pocket.

next, cut out a 1 x 5 1/2 in rectangle. sew two parallel lines along the outside edges. glue to the front of the envelope.

for the last section of the envelope, cut out three circles, a 2 1/2 in. cream cardstock, a 2 in pink bazzil , and a 1 1/2 in brown bazzil. make scallops around the cream cardstock, and punch small holes at each scallop. glue all three circles together. next, cut out a pea pod shape out of green paper using a cricut or die cut. use three green brads to make peas. glue the pea pod to the circles, and the circles to the envelope.

to make the inside/card - cut out a 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 in. square of pink bazzil. print the invitation on cream cardstock so that the final size measures 3 3/4 x 5 in. round the edges of both pieces of paper, then glue together. sew the papers together, using a straight stitch. cut out a 2 in. circle of pink bazzil and a 1 1/2 in. circle of cream cardstock. cut scallops around the pink circle. glue a green button to the middle of the cream circle, and sew on. write "sweet pea" along the outside of the button on the cream circle. glue the two circles together and then glue to the card.

and finally, place the card inside the envelope and take a nap - you deserve it!

note - if you don't have a way to scallop the edges of the two circles, get in contact with me. there is a way to make scallops with a paper edger, and I am more than willing to help explain how.

I consider this card to be my signature thank you card. and I have made way too many of them recently. (I made about 30 for our clinical sites last semester). they are easy, and I think unique and cute. they are also very versatile - you can use so many different patterns to fit the situation.

to make this card, cut out a piece of thicker paper so that you have a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card. cut out six 3/4 x 4 in. rectangles out of patterned or solid paper. cut out six 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. rectangles out of light solid paper. write t-h-a-n-k-s on the light solid paper, and glue the light colored paper with letters onto the larger rectangles, leaving a slightly larger border on the top of the larger rectangle. attach the letter rectangles to the card using eyelets or brads.

to make this card, cut a patterned paper to make a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 in. card base. use an ink pad to distress the edges of the card. cut out 2 stars, one slightly smaller than the other. glue them to each other, and then glue to the left side of the card. cover a chipboard letter b with paper, and sand the edges. glue the b onto the stars. cut out the rest of the name bryson using a cricut, diecuts, or punches. glue to the card. add the word welcome by using a rub-on. to attach star shaped brads to the left and right sides of the card.

a friend convinced me to sign up for a valentines card exchange, and this is the card I ended up making. I really like the card I made last year, "love windows," and decided to do a slightly fancier version of that one. to make this card, start with a piece of dark pinkish cardstock that is 4 1/4 x 11 in. fold in half. at the top of the card fold a 1/2 in. border, and glue together. punch two small holes about 1 in. apart in the middle. cut out four 1 1/2 x 2 in squares of cream cardstock. glue to the card. sew around each of the squares. cut out the letters "l, v, e" using a punch, diecut, or cricut. carefully color the edges of the letters to make them stand out. (or if you use a cricut, they make these markers that you use to draw the letters before they are cut out). glue the letters to their correct windows. cut out a heart using chipboard (a very thick, dense piece of cardboard-like paper). cut a heart out of patterned pink paper, that is the same size as the chipboard. glue the two together. you can use sandpaper to smooth the edges together. glue the heart to the correct window. finally, use raffia to make a flat bow through holes on the top of the card.

I made this card as a thank you card for graduation, but there is no writing on it, so it can actually be used for pretty much anything.
to make this card, cut a piece of cardstock to be 12x3 in. fold into thirds, making sure that the top section is short. punch out a star (or other shape) using a punch, die cut, or cricut. attach the shape to the card using an eyelet or brad, making sure it hangs over the short edge.

I found the letters at joann fabrics, and they were already painted white. I glued the paper I chose on using either spray adhesive or a glue stick. use sandpaper to shave off the extra paper. I actually put paper on the letters a couple of weeks ago, and then I didn't like how it looked, so redid it. it matches the living room better now...

easy invite

this invitation format is pretty easy to do and does not take a ton of time, but it always turns out super cute.

to make this invitation, cut out patterned paper to be 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 in. then print the invitation on another piece of solid paper or vellum. make sure that when your invitation prints, the final size will be smaller than the back (I'm really bad at computer stuff. I honestly can't tell you how to do it. I've found that if I am able to make a full page template, I can take a digital copy to a place like kinkos and they will make it the right size, print it on the paper of your choice, and even cut them out for you. and it's pretty cheap too!) after the invitation part has been cut to size, attach it to the patterned paper using brads or eyelets. you can be creative in the number and place you attach them together. have fun!

to make this craft you need: your desired number of flat wooden squares (or other shapes as desired) 2 different fabric patterns, iron-on adhesive, ribbon, a cricut or die cuts, and a rotary blade and mat. begin by ironing on the adhesive to the back of both the fabrics you are going to use. cut the letters by using a cricut or other die cut system. iron on the back fabric to the wooden squares (I promise, it works). then cut around the squares by using the rotary blade and mat. next, iron on the letters. finally, glue ribbon on to the back of the squares so you can hang them up!

To make this box, find a box in the shape and size you want. Remove the hardware. The fabric takes a lot of patience to put on, so just take it a little bit at a time. I started by doing the inside first, by using spray adhesive and a little ruler to flatten out the fabric. After the inside is dry, adhere the outer fabric. Allow plenty of time to dry. Add the hardware and decorate as desired.

I made this invitation for my good friend heather's bridal shower. I hope that she will forgive me for not thinking of a creative title (unless someone thinks of a good one!)

to make this card, start with a 12x6 in piece of beige paper. fold into thirds, making sure that the top third is a little shorter in length. print the invitation onto green vellum. attach to the middle part of the inside of the card using a brad or eyelet. fold, and close using a wax seal. write the invitees name on the outside of the invitation using a calligraphy pen (or get your talented friend who knows calligraphy to do it for you).

to make this card, use a 5 1/2 by 4 1/4 card base of cardstock. cut out three rectangles, with the width of each being 5 1/2 in and the height being such that they are one smaller than another. scallop the bottom and top of the largest rectangle, which will go on bottom. then place the other two rectangles on top of each other, so there is a border with each. sew on three buttons on the left side of the rectangles. glue the rectangles to the card base, leaving a border on top and bottom. cut out the word "baby" normally and with a shadow using a cricut or die cut. glue the normal cut "baby" to the shadow, and then onto the right side of the card.

to make this card, start with a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 in of cardstock for the card base, (11 x 4 1/4 in folded in half). cut out a 3 3/4 x 5 1/2 in rectangle. cut another rectangle, this time 5 1/2 x 3 1/4-1/2. glue the smallest rectangle to the next larger rectangle, leaving a border on the top and bottom. using a punch, diecut, cricut or freehand, cut out three flowers and a few extra petals. attach the flowers to the card using a brad on the double rectangle. cut out a few leaves. glue the leaves under the flowers so they can be seen, and glue the extra petals to the card so they look like they are falling. glue the double rectangle to the card, leaving a small border on the top, and just over one inch of space on the bottom. using diecuts, a cricut (george and basic shapes) or punches, cut out the letters to spell he loves me (set the letters to be 1 in. if using a cricut). glue the letters to the bottom of the card, overlapping as necessary to make space. leave a little space on the folded edge of the card. cut a piece of ribbon, and tie it around the card at the inside edge.

I made these graduation annoucements when I graduated from byu. I think that my roommates either hated me or thought I was crazy because I took over the entire living room while I was making them.

to make this card, cut a 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 rectange of cardstock of one of your school colors. cut out a square (or whatever shape to fit your stamp) piece of cardstock, using another school color. stamp a congratulations sentiment on the square. glue to the front of the card base. stamp the letters of your university or college directly onto the front of the card base. print your graduation announcement information onto another piece of cardstock. glue to the back of the card. congratulations!

I made this crown to celebrate my cat's "birthday". silly, I know, but fun nonetheless.

to make this crown, trace and cut out a crown pattern out of blue cardstock. lay the paper on top of a coppery colored cardstock and trace the crown pattern again, but leaving a 1/4 inchish border along the top and bottom. cut out a strip of white cardstock with scalloped craft scissors. cut a piece of maroon bazzill to fit inside the white paper. glue everything together as shown. after the glue dries, form the paper into a circle and attach the ends together. (if you have a really strong glue it might work, but I used staples.) cut out letters using a cricut or diecuts to spell the name. glue to the front of the crown. cut an elastic hair thing and staple ends to the inside of the crown so it will stay on your cat or doll's head.

welcome to laska love cards, a blog dedicated to cards and crafts. since I started making cards people have told me how amazing I am because the cards look so good (about half the time they look good, the other half of the time I want to throw them out the window). but I'm not that creative or amazing. I got this idea from watching gilmore girls (of course, I know). I had seen memory boards around, but I liked the fact that the dragonfly had one that was in a picture frame, making it look all fancy.

cover a painters canvas with batting and then fabric. staple it all to the backside of the canvas. string the ribbon across the canvas, again stapling it to the back. insert brads at the intersections, making sure to go all the way through to the back of the canvas (a large craft needle is helpful to puncture a hole the entire thickness). place the canvas in the picture frame and tape them together on the backside.

cut a 2 by 3 inch (or so) piece of cardstock and fold it in half. rub an ink pad along the edges of the face to give it a distressed look. cut one or two squares for use under the football or flower. use a sticker or cake candy topper for the football. use a brad to secure the flower into place. for the name, use rub-on's for the entire name or just the first letter and finish the rest of the name with your own writing.

to make this card use a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card base made of white cardstock. cut a 5 1/4 x 2 1/2 inch rectangle out of patterned paper. glue to the top of the card, leaving a border. cut a 5 1/4 x 2 1/4 inch rectangle out of patterned paper. draw a scalloped pattern on one of the long edges (draw on the back!). cut out the scallops. glue to the bottom part of the card, leaving an edge. it's okay if the two paper's overlap. cut a 5 1/2 x 1 or 1 in. piece of white cardstock. attach over the seam the two other papers made. punch or free cut a flower and sew a button to the middle of the flower. glue the flower and button to the card. use rub-on's to spell out happy birthday, or use rub-on's for the h (of happy) and b (of birthday) and hand write the other letters to match.

to make this card, use the usual 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card base, made of blue cardstock. cut a 5 1/2 x 3 inch rectangle of patterned paper. glue it to the bottom of the card. cut a 5 1/2 x 2 inch piece of patterned paper. round the bottom edge of the rectangle, making a kind of s shape out of the edge. glue it to the middle section of the card, leaving about 1 inch of the card base showing on the top. (the two cut out pieces of paper need to overlap!) using a sewing machine, stitch along the the top and bottom border of the middle section. use a cricut, diecut, or free cut a number or letter from a solid colored piece of paper. glue it to the card where it looks best.

this card has a kind of funny story. the school was doing some valentines activity this last year - cookie decorating, card making, probably some other stuff I don't remember. I convinced my friend that we should make a card, and this is what I made. it's all free cut - no rulers or punches, just me and some scissors, and she seemed to think I was amazing. it's not really that hard, so please don't also praise me...I'm not that awesome.

to make this card, cut out a rectangle of red paper (thicker paper will be better). then cut out a slightly smaller rectangle of pink paper. glue them together so there is a border of the red paper. cut out four square-ish shapes from white paper. glue them in a 2x2 pattern in the middle of the pink paper. cut out the letters "L", "V", and "E", and a heart. after being cut out, outline them with a black maker. glue them onto the white windows. pierce two holes in the top of the card, about 3/4 of an inch or so apart. then cut thin strips of white paper, a little longer than the width of the card. weave the paper through the holes on the top of the card. using the scissors, curl the thin strips of paper like you would balloon ribbon.

to make this card use a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card base of thick patterned paper. cut a 5 1/2 x 2 1/4 inch rectangle of solid colored or patterned paper. cut another rectangle of plain colored or bazzill paper 5 1/2 x 2 inches. glue them together, leaving a border on the top and bottom. cut a 5 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch patterend paper. glue down the single rectangle first, leaving a border of the patterned card base showing. then glue the double rectangle down, leaving a larger portion/border of the card base. punch in two eyelets on each side of the double rectangle. cut out the words "thank" and "you" using a cricut (opposites attract) or diecut. glue down "thank" first across the double rectangle. then glue "you" down on top of the bottom portion of "thank".

to make this card use a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 single card base (it just has a front and back - it doesn't fold). cut off the upper right and left corners. punch out a circle, and attach it to the middle top of the card using an eyelet. stamp a snowman onto white paper (I used a bazzill paper for texture, but the stamp didn't always look good). tear the edges of the paper around the stamp. use colored pencils to color in certain parts of the stamp. use chalk to color the ripped edge of the paper. glue to the middle of the card base. stamp a christmas phrase to the bottom right of the card base. attach ribbon through the eyelet hole.

to make the base, cut a 3 1/8 x 6 1/3 in. piece of patterned paper. cut a 2 3/4 x 5 3/4 in. piece of vellum. attach all four corners with brads. the patterned paper should form an equal border on three sides, with one side having a little bit larger border.

to make the bookmark, cut 6 x 2 3/8 in. piece of patterned paper. round the edges with a paper edge rounder. punch in an eyelet on one end of the bookmark and put in a ribbon. cut out four 1 1/2 in. squares. glue them to the bookmark in an up and down pattern. cut out the letters "B", "A", "B" and "Y" from bazzill paper using a cricut (george and basic shapes) or diecut. glue them to the inside of the square blocks. print out the invitation and glue it to the back of the bookmark. insert the bookmark into the base, making sure the top of the bookmark (where the ribbon is) has the extra border of the base.

to make this card, start with a 4 x 11 1/2 inch textured paper. fold 2 9/16 in (you could probably do 2 1/2 in.) from each side toward the middle of the card. glue the printed invitation onto the middle inside of the card. cut out two vellum flowers using a punch, diecut or cricut and attach them to the middle of the inside of the card using an eyelet. before you actually attach them, mark where they should be attached, making sure that the edge of the card will be held down by the flower.

to make this card, start with a 12 x 4 inch piece of paper, folded length-wise to form a 6x4 in. card of bazzill or textured paper. cut out a 5 1/4 x 3 1/4 in. rectangle of black bazzill. cut a 5x3 in. rectangle of beige bazzill. glue the two rectangles together in the middle, leaving a 1/8 border all the way around. attach the double rectangles to the card using eyelets in all four corners, making sure to leave a 1/2 inch-ish boarder all the way around the card. cut out three triangles from green bazzill. cut a square from brown bazzill, and punch out a star from yellow bazzill. glue them to the beige rectangle, starting with the trunk, then the three triangles (make sure to overlap, finally glue the star on top. stamp a holiday message onto the beige bazzill, and glue it to a piece of black bazzill for a border. glue to the inside of the card.

to make this card, start with a 6x3 in. piece of double sided patterned paper, folded in half to form a 3 in. square card. print out the front of the card onto vellum, and cut the phrase out so that it is smaller than 3x3 in. do the same for the inside, invitation part of the card. glue the invitation to the inside. measure a piece of ribbon to the size of the neck of the rubber ducky plus about 1 in. or so. attach the vellum and the ends of the ribbon to the card with a brad.
